PSA: Twitter/X Blocking

Posted by AnonymousFrogClock - 2 weeks ago

Recently I've seen this announcement that X, or Twitter, or whatever it's called will be launching a change to how the block function works. This is something that has popped up throughout the year, and on many occasions I've seen some people claim this would

  1. go against the terms and conditions of both major app stores (Apple + Google)
  2. allow stalkers to keep on stalking as if nothing happened
  3. violate privacy laws in certain countries (not counting America)

I've also seen they will allow AI to train off your posts with no easy way to opt out, which is a totally different problem altogether.

As a result, more "exodus" posts, more jumps to Bluesky or other platforms. But to anyone here on Newgrounds, I have one thing I absolutely NEED to inform you.

Newgrounds handles blocking EXACTLY* like this!

If someone blocks you on Newgrounds, you can still view their page, their posts, their submissions, but you cannot follow them, favourite, comment, or review on their posts or submissions, nor can you PM them.

This means if you're worried about what Twitter's gonna do, those effects have already been mostly the same on NG.

*I mean Twitter has the option to set your account private, which should allow you to truly limit who sees your profile, but Newgrounds doesn't seem to have that.

On the upside, NG also lets you pick which sections to block them from.

For example: you can block someone from PM'ing and reviewing submissions, but not following you or sending friend requests, and vice versa.

But either way, a full-powered block from NG (ie. ALL the checkboxes below) is roughly the same level of power as a block from Twitter (as you've seen).

If you're worried about stalkers, etc. you can report them to the mods and they can delete the account.

That's it.

fr though, how do i tick all the boxes for accounts i block?

Blocking automatically ticks all the boxes by default.

Also, Dumpster was bullying me here and off-site.
